The residential MSEM program is typically a 3-semester program. Students in the program are required to complete:

  • A project-based management track offered by the Center for Leadership Education and tailored to the needs of future engineering managers. To facilitate this program, all MSEM students will take required management courses together as a cohort. All management cohorts begin during the fall semester.
  • The MS in Engineering Management degree program is specifically designed for individuals preparing for a career in industry. As such, all MSEM students have the curricular option to complete the 3-credit, graded  MSEM Internship and Assessment Course (EN.662.802 (01) in conjunction with an external internship to satisfy one of the MSEM degree elective requirements. Typically students complete this course in the third semester of study (Fall). It can either be linked to an extension of a summer internship between the second and third semesters, or it can be linked to a standalone internship for the one semester only. Prior program approval is required to enroll in the internship course, which includes regularly scheduled meetings with the MSEM Coordinator, a class presentation, and a final report related to the internship experience.
  • Please refer to the MSEM Guidebook and  Check Sheet for additional details.

The JHU MSEM program was a great place for me to hone my technical skills while improving my interpersonal and communication skills. The degree program has proven to be extremely valuable as I transition to a workplace that emphasizes the need for both skills. I am grateful for my experience at Hopkins and thankful to the amazing MSEM Professors and Faculty for teaching me.
